Good to see everyone and as we discovered, it’s good to be called Sue, as two of our members, Sue O and Sue L, have been celebrating winning photographs this month. I also was a finalist in a local photographic Battersea Society competition, so congratulations all round. It proves that it is sometimes worth the effort and the modest entry fee to enter the odd competition.
 
After sharing some photos from the internet, I brought everyone up to date on our Barnes Artists exhibition next month at St Michaels Church, West Barnes. 14 members are involved and the exhibition takes place 18 – 20 November with a Private View on 17 November. It would be lovely see you at the event at some stage.  

I also let it be known that I am talking to the business community in Putney about doing something with them in December. Last year, if you remember, we did a vacant shop window display. Well this year, they would like to do a similar thing but with some gift shops and possibly a gallery. This is still in its raw stage, so more to follow.  

We then moved onto our main item, pictures from our chosen theme of the month, colourful characters. Unsurprisingly, most people chose people to feature (with the odd exception, Paul, Juliette and me amongst them, where nature got a look in and even a bit of calligraphy or was it hieroglyphics, nice one Juliette) and my personal favourites were Fred’s and Alastair’s. But the standard was high so thank you one and all.
 With a nod to Sue Oakford and her still life work, we agreed that ‘Still Life’ should be our theme for next time, for which she gave us a few tips. Be careful in your choice of colours and maybe use a backdrop to add to the mood.

Martin wondered if we might like to do something in December by way of a social and various ideas were put forward – a drink and/or meal locally, a trip to a light show in Crystal Palace and finally, our new member David is appearing in panto this Christmas in Dartford (as the baddy it appears – boo hiss!) and that was also floated as a suggestion.
