The June meeting of the Central LIP Group took place over Zoom on 8th June. The theme for the evening was “Elemental – Earth, Air and Water” which inspired a range of interesting imagery.
Sue’s work focussed on water with reflections of reeds in a marshy area which looked like Japanese ink drawings and sky scapes of clouds. She presented the images with a letter box crop to focus attention on detail which worked especially well in bringing out the patterns and colours in the clouds. Keeping with a water theme, Astrid showed images taken on the Medway. The empty, watery landscape was brought out by the addition of a bleach bypass filter in post processing.

Austin’s images took a wider view of the topic and ranged from extreme weather in Tokyo during typhoon season to the fire of a sunset and the peace flame in Hiroshima. He included an earth sculpture in the Heligan gardens in Cornwall and a dramatic waterfall in Iceland. Janet concentrated on water. She showed calm reflections in the Hampstead Ponds where the sky seemed to float on the surface of the water and, in contrast, a close up of water spurting in the Trafalgar Square fountains.

Eve’s images were from a college project on water where the catch was that it could not be shown in liquid form. Her two abstract images of ice were creative, beautiful and fun. Alec also chose water as his preferred element. He showed images taken during a train journey from Edinburgh to Dundee, along the edge of the Firth of Forth where the sea seemed almost to lap at the tracks.

Edey continued the water theme and showed abstract images of light playing on the surface of rivers and the sea. Moving away from the elemental, Sukhy showed his ongoing personal project of local life in his South East London neighbourhood. This included a mysterious image of a classic car which looked like a film still and an almost sculptural portrait of a local musician.
