I started the meeting by taking a look at some recent award images plus some amazing pictures from the Paris Olympics.
We then moved onto our theme for the month and thanks to Fred for the idea. Don’t forget to send your entries onto fLIP for possible inclusion in the next magazine and lets make it a Putney edition!

“Wow, what a responsibility to choose the winners for the theme ‘Liminal’ I was spoilt for choice as all the entries deserved to be winners and very challenging to just pick 3 ! I know photography can be very subjective but after a lot of wrestling and trying to be mindful of the brief here are my 3 winners.

Winner: Nigel Attenborough – No more diamonds – 11. The image is so evocative of time and place. Great composition with the bath placed centre foreground giving a feeling of shifting sands of time and activity. Weathered doors and pastel colours of the walls add to the impact of the abandonment of life.

Runner up: Julian Newton – Pink and Blue light show. The image is striking in it’s surreal nature. It draws the viewer into a strange world of transition. Technically well executed and the red and blue horizontal/vertical lines add to the awe and wonder. Lady with the handbag gives it great composition and a ghost like appearance.

Runner up : Fred Barrington – Towards the Light. Great subject matter and composition. The image draws you directly into the tunnel with light at the end. The spectre of a man gives a sense of eeriness and unease. Technically well executed and evokes mystery with a ghoulish feel to it”

Given the issues everyone had (including me) on just what Liminal was all about, the standard was really high, so well done everyone.

Then to Jane’s spot – she took off to Svalbard in July and with its 24 hours of daylight, what a time she had. I’m only sorry that we didn’t have more time to really appreciate it – thanks Jane. Not many of us have the resources or time to go to such wonderful places, so it’s very generous of her to share her experience with us. I look forward to her next trip and the ability for us all to be on her shoulder, if only virtually.

As for next month, after some debate, we voted in Katie’s idea of ‘Music’ for our next theme.

Our next meeting is set for Tuesday 15 October and I have arranged for a guest speaker to come and talk to us.

Some of you may know Sophie Carr (please check her out on Instagram, she’s great). She’s been a friend for sometime and I have just discovered that she is leaving London at the end of October, so I thought it would be great if we could all meet her before she goes. She will need to be paid, so if everyone could bring a fiver that would be brilliant.

I have a further idea, that we make that £10 and I and Rodney look into getting a new and rather better projector – what do you reckon to his Rodney – a quick check on Amazon and this was their top pick – VISULAPEX mini 15000L?
