Dear All

Good to see everyone on Tuesday and I hope everyone is enjoying the mild weather. The last two afternoons have been brilliant for photography, with autumn colours coming through and some fabulous light. One destination I can personally recommend, the Kyoto Garden in Holland Park, which I went to yesterday.

I began the meeting by thanking Juliette for her efforts in trying to secure an exhibition site. Sadly, The Exchange in offering us a community discount, will not guarantee us space outside Waitrose, if they get a better offer. On that basis, she felt, and I agree with her, that it was a too risky. The library was another option but they don’t have any space until March next year. I shall make a point of talking to Andrew Childs early for next year’s Barnes event.

Alasdair brought us up to date on the Roehampton Trinity Church opportunity; the attraction of this event is that there are no entry fees. However, one wonders how popular it will be and how easy it will be to attract an audience. Personally, I think we should try and help them but it does need one of us to step up and help Alasdair steer it. So, if anyone would like to help, please let me know. I shall also be on hand to help as well but I cannot commit full time.

We then moved onto our theme for the month, which was ‘Signage’ and people seemed to love this theme, with some excellent entries. Stand outs for me would be Rodney’s, where any one of his three pictures were worthy of being pick of the bunch, Bill, Nigel (Paloma Faith looking suitably moody – check out her latest single, a remix of one of huge hits — love it) and Susan. Given the strength of Rodney’s work, I asked if he might like to come back next month and show us some more of his street work, which he agreed to do.

Our meeting next month will be on 15th, when our theme will be ‘Moody, Atmospheric and Spooky’, courtesy of Juliette. 

We finished the meeting with a look at Alasdair’s mural idea for the Coach & Horses – copy attached. It’s a composite of around 10 pictures and proves that Photoshop is not just for the young – well done Alasdair and let’s hope that the pub goes for it.
