Our regular meeting at Lumen in Tavistock Square on 9th April was attended by 19 members. Eight showed images on the theme of Circles and Squares. We spent the second half of the meeting time ensuring that we are prepared for our annual exhibition. We will have a record 27 exhibitors showing work on the theme of Listen at the Espacio Gallery from 15-20 April. Thanks to everyone who prepared images and generously contributed their time to organising the exhibition – it’s been a great team effort!

The Circles and Squares theme was interpreted in many ways. Edey’s images included a bicycle wheel with half of its spokes missing which seemed to have a story to tell.
© Dorota Boisot
Dorota showed mainly architectural images including one of the Hive tower at Kew Gardens taken from below with great precision to capture its symmetry, and one from the Frank Gehry designed Louis Vuitton Foundation building in Paris.
© Pauline Moon
Pauline’s images were taken on a visit to Deal exploring details of the castle such shadows of tessellations, round flints set between square slabs, and even circular keys on a predecimal till in the museum.
© Janet Nabney
Janet used double exposures to creatively superimpose elements of the British museum including one of a glass dome which then resembled a clock face.
© Austin Guest
Austin showed a variety of circular forms encountered on his trips ranging from blue plaques, aircraft components, a drain cover from Tokyo and a huge mirror ball at Covent Garden.
© Nusse Mechthild Belton
Nusse images included an elaborate facade of apartments near the O2 Greenwich which seemed to contain interlocking squares, the aluminium discs on the curved surface of Selfridges in Birmingham and a wonderful composition of an office worker walking in a space between two giant mirrored balls.
© Sam Nicholls
Sam, who is new to the group, showed examples of his street photography including portraits, and candid shots of people interacting.

Lizzie took photos on an urban walk including circular water meters set amongst rectangular slabs, and shadows cast from a rectangular metal gate which contained circular shadows of holes. She also showed an abstract image, which on closer viewing, revealed itself to be an autumn leaf in a mop bucket taken from above.

Eva submitted images using circular forms, particularly utilising the colour red.
The next Central London meeting will take place on Wednesday 14th May, featuring personal projects.
