Dear All
Again, my apologies for the double-booking last week, but it couldn’t be helped, I was involved with my friend’s book from the beginning and it was nice to see her finally get it published.
What an awful day – summer seems a world away!
A huge thanks to Martin for holding the fort. This month’s theme, was ‘green’, our judge this month was Nigel and over to him for this month’s results…
This judging business is not easy. My short list includes the creative use of green sludge by James and by Fred, Martin’s wayward car, Bill’s Jaywick cyclist, Rodney’s green with purple heads and Anne’s baby on the beach.
The winner is Anne whose image is well composed and powerful. Nigel
So, well done Anne, a striking image and a worthy winner.
Speaking of Anne, she mentioned that after all this rain and some high tides, our exhibition pictures down by the river have collected some dirt, so, if anyone was passing could they remember to take a cloth for some on the spot cleaning – and thanks for passing that on Anne.
I wrapped up the meeting with a look at a pioneering London based photographer, Paul Martin, who was active around 1900. They are putting up a blue plaque to him in Bellevue Road, just off Wandsworth Common and I have been invited along to say a few words. It was interesting looking into his background and at some of his photography. He was very much taken with street photography, way before it became the popular thing it is today, and used one of the very first handheld cameras.
If anyone else would like to come along and share the life, times and images from someone they like and admire please let me know?
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 18 November with the theme of ‘leaves’ and I look forward to seeing everyone then – all the best and enjoy your photography AW
