Our theme of the month, leaves, and a big thank you to Rodney for presenting. There was a lot of creativity on show, particularly from Bill (from the freezer) and Nigel (with his composites) but over to Joe for his winners and also rans. A man of few words, he clearly wasn’t swayed by the more outlandish shots and has gone with Juliette’s beautiful picture from Fulham Palace (as it happens, a tree I am also familiar with, a beautiful beech), as his runners up, he particularly liked James’s leaf structure and Martin’s ‘last to fall’. Thanks for judging Joe.
Going alphabetically, I think that means that Helen is up next to judge, followed by Bill.
As for our next theme, there is no actual meeting in December, so the idea put up by Joe and adopted was ‘Birds in Flight’ and we have effectively two months to conjure up something, which I don’t believe we have tackled before, so, thanks Joe.
After our break, I then moved onto a new idea and something born out of my piece last time on Paul Martin, the local Wandsworth photographer, who has just had a plaque put up for him in Bellevue Road.
It set me wondering what other local photographers there might be, which led me to William Field, who had a shop in Putney High Street in the early part of the last century. In 1998, a book was published of his work and some copies still exist and I therefore felt it would be great to get a copy and as an ongoing project, see about our group producing a set of modern pictures to show what his pictures might look like today.
I have the book on order and will be back to everyone when it arrives.
Thanks again to everyone for participating this year, as a group I think we gel along really well, enjoy what we do and each year, expand our ideas and creativity – our exhibition this year being a good example.
I hope to see some of you at our dinner and talk soon – all the best AW
