On 10 August, 8 members of LIP Central Group shared their work via Zoom on themes of ‘Wild’ or ‘Summer of Discontent’.
Off theme, and charmingly, Janet Nabney created a 5-image storyboard of a film shoot in her local street, whereas on the theme of ‘Summer of Discontent’ Richard Treister shared 7 street photography images including queues at pop-up fruit and veg stalls, abandoned takeaway food piles on pavement, and a wonderful study of a weary Deliveroo biker.
For the theme of ‘Wild’ Anna Lerner captured the heat-haze feel of marshlands surrounding Rye. Over the course of a weekend she maximised use of soft focus and the subtle colouring of marsh plants to great effect. Steve Jones in a completely different milieu, over a single morning, turned his infra-red adapted camera on some abandoned buildings to produce very elegant monochrome studies. Eve Milner created portraits of animals and birds at ZSL, by turns poignant and comical, and Robin Barr shared an outstanding set of images all taken at Baitings Reservoir in the West Yorkshire Pennines, where extreme water loss this summer has revealed extraordinary semi-abstract lines, colours and shapes in the emerging bed of the reservoir.
